September 12, 2025 — KUBTEC®, a global leader in X-ray imaging and irradiator technologies, was honored to receive the Seed Innovation Excellence Award at the India–Africa Seed Summit 2025. The award was given for the XSEED® systems in the category of “Breakthrough Seed Technology”. The XSEED systems are a range of high-resolution X-ray imaging systems and software solutions designed specifically for use in seed and agricultural analysis applications.
Received by Mr. Prasanth Varma, Managing Director of KUBTEC India, and presented by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director General of International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the award acknowledges KUBTEC's commitment to pioneering technology in the seed industry.
With three models (XSEED Mini, XSEED, and XSEED Plus) designed to meet a variety of budgets and imaging needs, each of the XSEED systems is capable of imaging internal seed morphology in fully intact seeds. The XSEED line enables non-destructive assessment of seed quality in dramatically less time than traditional methods, such as tetrazolium chloride test or germination test. Applications for the systems extend across food crops into forestry seeds, horticulture, and plant conservation, providing the ability to accelerate breeding programs and detect insect infestations. Additionally, they have the versatility to be installed in mobile labs to support research in the field with only standard power required; no water or other resources are needed.
Vikram Butani, CEO of KUBTEC, said of the award:
“We are grateful for the recognition, and honored to provide seed companies, agricultural universities, research institutions, and government agencies globally with a cutting-edge tool for better, more efficient seed quality assessment. There is a critical need globally for high-quality seed with improved viability, strong germination potential, and high crop yields. The XSEED line can help meet this need by directly contributing to more sustainable farming practices and accelerating crop improvement to help shape the future of agriculture.”
The India–Africa Seed Summit was spearheaded by The Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), a premier institution committed to advancing agriculture, for the purpose of convening global experts and stakeholders to explore new opportunities, address key challenges, and drive impactful change in the agricultural landscape.
