Updates to the Missouri Botanical Garden Seed Bank
A seed bank stores seeds to maintain genetic diversity. There are many reasons to store seeds, for example, deadly diseases, nutritional quality, taste, etc.
The biggest challenges for seed banks are the selection, updating of seeds, and keeping seeds alive for hundreds of years.
You will see in this webinar how Meg Engelhardt, Seed Bank Manager did ‘Updates to the Missouri Botanical Garden Seed Bank’ with the help of KUBTEC ® XPERT® 80 X-ray system and how it helped her with the research.
We use an X-ray to see the inside of the seeds, to make sure seeds have good quality. With an optical camera, you can pick out the exact seeds that have infestation or are undeveloped.
